St. Luke's is always looking for ways to raise funds to support our Outreach Programs. This year we decided to return to an old standby that we used at the Bazaars many years ago - Brunswick Stew. But, it turned out to be with a major new twist! As things evolved, John Hodges-Copple volunteered to herd the sheep through this endeavor; Donald Hamm, Bill Sabiston and Steve Dedrick hopped on board for the Q and Jim Short asked advice from Stewmaster Dan at Grace United Methodist Church in Roxboro and came up with an offer to guide us through the process with expertise and equipment!! Add to that Bob Moore, Peter Taflan, Suzanne Blankfard and Bill Gutknecht who took on major marketing and Joan Hodges and Wendy Cook who took on orders and we were off and running! Pre-orders were taken, commodities ordered, volunteers signed up and on Friday, February 18th at 4 p.m., we were ready to roll.
The event was a success at all levels! It brought together volunteers from 15-75 years young, working side by side to create an outstanding product which sold out! It proved all those hours and hours of renovation time and talent really did create a dream kitchen put to its intended use! And, even better, it added over $3000 to our Outreach Fund. Below are some pictures from the event and some, but by all means not all, of those who made it happen! Prep work began at 4 pm on Friday and the first Q went on the grill about 7 pm and three different loads of pork cooked through the night. Stew ingredients went into the pot shortly after 4 am and were stirred until 10:30 when they came off and were packaged. Pickups began at 11am through 1pm with the few quarts of remaining stew sold on Sunday morning. What a wonderful effort by all. It's the way we like Outreach at St. Luke's, lots of fun and fellowship while serving others. Thanks be to God.
Our Grateful thanks to Stewmaster Dan Davis and the Stew Committee at
Grace United Methodist Church in Roxboro! They were wonderful partners in this endeavor!
